EFC manufactures wire harness prototypes. We support the design process and manufacture a cost-effective wire harness tailored to your production needs. When a product prototype is developed from the very beginning with top-level industry experience and professional expertise, no time is wasted on unnecessary clarification work or correcting possible missteps. As a result, your resources are freed up for other priorities and your product’s competitiveness increases.
EFC manufactures wire harness prototypes for a wide range of needs. Prototypes are required, for example, when a company begins manufacturing a new product, when wire harnesses must be modified as a result of product development, or when a company is considering outsourcing its wire harness production. In the latter case, a prototype series is an easy and cost-effective way to ensure that the expected benefits of outsourcing wire harness production are actually realized. We manufacture prototypes for virtually any type of wire harness – from small grounding leads to complex bundles with up to 20 branches.
Everything starts with contacting us
Prototype manufacturing begins with an initial contact. At its simplest, the customer only needs to know that wire harnesses are required. Once the customer contacts us, we know how to ask the right questions and identify the necessary information. Depending on the harness, we need to know details such as conductor lengths and the types of cable lugs and connectors. This information can also be provided as a sample part, a photograph, or even a hand-drawn sketch on the corner of a notebook page. We ask for any additional details needed and provide recommendations on the most suitable manufacturing methods.
Next, the prototype is manufactured and sent to the customer for approval. We then perform our own tests on the prototype to ensure it meets the customer’s requirements. If the assignment includes assembly, we install the harness into the final product. If needed, we can also produce a documentation plan based on the prototype. Once all stages have been approved by the customer, the product can proceed to mass production.
Getting the product to market as quickly as possible
EFC has decades of experience in wire harness manufacturing. Thanks to our expertise, we are able to support our customers throughout the prototype design phase and provide valuable recommendations related to manufacturing. When a prototype is created from the outset with experience and professionalism, customers do not lose time on unnecessary clarification work or correcting possible missteps.
For many customers, it is also crucial to get the product equipped with new wire harnesses to market as quickly as possible. This is why we focus on fast response times and service – during the prototype phase, customers get their first experience of how smooth cooperation with us truly is. In the best cases, only two weeks have passed between the initial contact and the start of production.
EFC’s service offering strengthens competitiveness
At EFC, it is important to us that our customers’ products are as competitive as possible. We genuinely want to help our customers succeed with a profitable product. Technical Sales Manager Kim Dahl emphasizes that competitiveness is not created solely by the choices made during the prototype phase, but by EFC’s entire service offering:
“During the production phase, our customers gain significant benefits from outsourcing wire harness production to us. Instead of ordering hundreds of individual components and using their own resources to assemble the product, customers receive a professionally manufactured wire harness that is optimized for production and delivered directly to their process. We also support our customers continuously and, for example, visit their facilities to identify work phases that could be eliminated with our help, freeing up valuable resources elsewhere. In short, we act as an active partner throughout the customer’s operations, continuously seeking solutions that deliver the greatest possible benefit. This starts in the prototype phase and continues throughout the entire collaboration.”
